Chosen: The Feeling of Being Trusted With a Child
This is part 4 of 5 in my personal series, How I Raised My Daughter. I’m Shree, the founder of MindfullyRaised, and these are my own memories and beliefs, not rules. Every child and every family is different.
When my daughter was born, I kept looking at her and thinking, “Is she really mine?”
It felt as if God had chosen me to care for her, and to help shape a human being. That feeling has never really left me.
Grateful for more than I asked for
Even now, I feel I have been given more than I ever asked for. I am grateful for my family, my husband and my children.
I don’t know if I’m a good mother. But I know I’m giving her my best.
Wanting the best, and working for it
I don’t settle for less for her. I want the best for my daughter, and I am willing to work for it.
My quiet aim is to love her so fully that she never feels the need to look for love outside. It isn’t fear. I want her to feel settled, content and satisfied, and she is.
A thought for every parent
Whatever your faith or background, you may have felt this too: the sense that you have been trusted with someone. On hard days, that feeling can be a quiet anchor. You don’t have to be perfect to be worthy of that trust. You only have to keep showing up.
